Claude or ChatGPT for business

Two of the best LLMs on the market compared: where each one shines, and how an SME should choose.

Daniel Levis· Published 1 September 2026

In brief

There is no absolute winner: it depends on the process. Choose ChatGPT if your priority is rolling an assistant out to the whole team, ready integrations or multimodal tasks. Choose Claude if long documents, writing quality or coding matter. If both matter, use them for different tasks. The real question isn't 'which model', but 'for which process' and with what data governance.

Option A

Claude (Anthropic)

Anthropic's LLM, available via web, app and API, valued for reasoning over long texts, writing and coding. Team and Enterprise plans for business.

Pros

  • +Excellent on long documents and analysis: handles very large contexts without losing the thread
  • +High quality on writing and reasoning, with a more sober, less hyped tone
  • +Explicitly cautious approach to safety, useful in regulated contexts
  • +Claude Code is very strong for software development assistance

Cons

  • Smaller ecosystem of integrations and plugins than ChatGPT
  • Fewer visible consumer features (image, voice) than OpenAI
  • Lower adoption: less likely your employees already know it
  • Availability and features can vary by region

Best for

  • Teams working heavily on long documents, contracts, analysis and writing
  • Software development and code review
  • Companies that prioritise a cautious safety profile

Option B

ChatGPT (OpenAI)

OpenAI's LLM, the most widely used on the market, with app, API, custom GPTs and Team and Enterprise plans. A rich ecosystem of integrations.

Pros

  • +Very broad ecosystem: integrations, connectors, custom GPTs and store
  • +Huge adoption: many employees already use it, so rollout is faster
  • +Full multimodal features (image, voice, file analysis, web)
  • +Mature Team/Enterprise plans with admin controls and data excluded from training

Cons

  • On very long texts it can lose coherence more easily than Claude
  • The breadth of the offering sometimes confuses: many features, non-obvious choices
  • The default tone is more 'enthusiastic' and needs calibrating for professional use
  • The wealth of consumer features can distract from operational use

Best for

  • Companies wanting to roll out an AI assistant to the whole team quickly
  • Those needing many integrations and multimodal use cases
  • Teams building custom GPTs or flows on the OpenAI ecosystem
Criterion Claude (Anthropic) ChatGPT (OpenAI)
Long texts and documents Strength Good, but more fragile on huge contexts
Ecosystem and integrations Narrower Very broad
Team adoption Lower Highest, often already known
Multimodality (image, voice) Limited Full
Development assistance Very strong (Claude Code) Strong
Data governance (business plans) Data excluded from training Data excluded from training on Team/Enterprise

The verdict

This isn't a race with a single winner: it depends on the process. If you want an assistant to roll out to the whole team fast, with ready integrations and multimodal use, ChatGPT starts ahead thanks to ecosystem and adoption. If the core of the work is long documents, analysis, writing or code, Claude often delivers more on reasoning quality. In many companies the sensible move is to use both for different tasks. But the real point isn't the model: a generic chatbot, however good, won't run your process end-to-end. For that you need an agent built on your flow, with your data and your governance.

FAQ

What people usually ask us.

Claude or ChatGPT: which is safer for company data?
On the business plans (Team/Enterprise) of both, the data you enter is not used to train the models and there are admin controls. The real difference is your governance: who can enter what, which data stays out, and compliance with GDPR and the AI Act. If the use case is sensitive, an agent built on European infrastructure with an audit log gives more control than a generic chatbot.
Is it worth paying for the business plan, or is the free version enough?
For occasional use the free version can be enough. For ongoing professional work you need the paid plans: more capable models, higher limits, admin controls and above all data excluded from training. That's the bare minimum for using an LLM on company information.
If I pick a model today, am I locked into it?
No, and that's a good reason not to overthink it. The market shifts every few months. If you build serious processes on top of an LLM, you want an architecture that lets you swap the model underneath without redoing everything. With Soraia the code belongs to the client from day one, with no lock-in to a single vendor.
Is a chatbot like Claude or ChatGPT enough to automate a process?
To help people write, summarise or reason, yes. To run a process end-to-end (CV screening, reconciliations, ticket triage) you need an agent that reads your data, takes the steps autonomously and leaves an audit trail. The model is the engine; the agent is the vehicle built on your flow. If you want to understand what fits your case, let's talk.
Can I use both?
Yes, and it's common in mature teams: ChatGPT for breadth and integrations, Claude for long documents and writing or code. The cost of two subscriptions is often negligible against the value, as long as there's a clear rule on which data can go where.
