Overview
Navily is a leading boating app helping yachters discover and book anchorages and ports. Every week, users upload thousands of photos, reviews, and new entries. But instead of smooth operations, the team was overwhelmed by manual moderation, data collection from scattered sources, and time-consuming analysis.
While user-generated content was a strength, moderating and organizing it manually was becoming a bottleneck. The team spent hours each week reviewing inappropriate images, cleaning up spammy reviews, and manually researching port info on Google Maps.
They had two choices:
- Keep scaling operations by hiring more moderators and researchers—a costly, time-heavy route.
- Automate the workflows using AI—a smarter, leaner approach that could enhance quality while saving time.
They chose the second path. Here's how we helped them get there.
Challenge
Navily faced several key operational hurdles:
- Manual comment moderation → Reviews had to be read and filtered by humans to ensure quality and safety. The process was slow and error-prone.
- Inappropriate or poor-quality images → User-uploaded photos required visual inspection to detect inappropriate, irrelevant, or low-quality content.
- Time-consuming satellite image analysis → Information like seabed type or wind protection was being extracted manually from satellite maps.
- Manual data entry from Google Maps → Port contact details like websites, emails, and phone numbers had to be researched and added by hand.
Together, these pain points drained team productivity, introduced risk, and limited the user experience on the app.
Solution
Instead of patching inefficient workflows, we built a full AI-powered moderation and enrichment engine to support Navily’s scale.
Here’s what we did:
✅ Automated content moderation → We implemented GPT-powered review and image filtering systems to instantly flag inappropriate, irrelevant, or low-quality submissions.
✅ Enriched marina data automatically → Using APIs and scraping tools, we pulled phone numbers, emails, and websites directly from Google Maps and injected them into Navily’s backend.
✅ AI-based satellite image analysis → We used AI to extract marina-level environmental data (like wind protection and seabed type) from satellite imagery—previously a fully manual process.
✅ Built and tested with real data → All AI workflows were rigorously tested using real user submissions to ensure high accuracy and low false positives.
✅ Integrated into production → We supported the Navily dev team in integrating these workflows smoothly into their infrastructure with minimal disruption

Key Takeaways
- AI can do more than chat—it can clean, analyze, and enrich real-world data at scale.
- Automation isn't just a time-saver—it’s a competitive advantage when scaling content-heavy platforms.
- Even traditional, manual processes like satellite image reading or contact info scraping can be AI-augmented with the right approach.
Thanks to a smart, scalable automation architecture, Navily now delivers a faster, cleaner, and richer experience to its global sailing community—without scaling up moderation costs.
Their platform is ready for the future. AI-powered, resource-optimized, and user-first.
